Our goal is for all children to feel safe, injury free, and comfortable in school. Remember that dress is a form of communication. The way students dress affects their attitude in class and the atmosphere of our school in general. Although we do not have a formal dress code, please keep these guidelines in mind as children dress for school during months of warmer weather:
· Due to growth spurts, clothing may be too tight.
· Shorts or skirts should be no more than two inches above the knee.
· Garments that allow display of bare skin of the back, midriff, shoulders, or thighs are inappropriate for school. Spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, and strapless shirts are great for family warm weather activities, but are out of place at school.
· Fabrics that are see-through, excessively tight, or intentionally torn should not be worn to school.
· Clothing should completely conceal undergarments and private areas of the body. Necklines and arm openings should be modest.
· Slides, platforms, and flip-flops are unsafe footwear during recess activities, gym participation, and on stairways. High heels should be saved for special occasions at home.
Let’s work together to promote a positive school climate and maintain safety through appropriate dress at FAS.
