Recess Expectations

Minimize

With a very large playground and 140 to 370 children playing at any one time, all students must understand the importance of following our rules. Please review these expectations at home with your child so that he or she will have a lot of fun, stay safe, and avoid injury.

Expectations for Recess:
(morning arrival and after lunch)

·          Running, chasing, playing tag and ball games must happen only in the open grassy areas, on the baseball field, or in the fenced courts.
·         When confined to the hardtop area, crowded conditions require walking and being more careful of each other’s movements.
·         All balls and color-coded equipment are reserved for lunch recess. (Only fifth graders are allowed to play ball before school in the courts). Wall Ball can be played only after lunch and away from windows. Anyone using items must be responsible for returning them to the mesh bags.
·          If a ball goes over the fence beyond the playground or into the parking area, tell a supervisor on duty. Never leave the playground.
·          Stay away from the dumpster area and slope near the fences that surround our playground. Always stay where supervisors can see you.
·          Always walk near the swings and play structure area. If your feet are in the bark mulch rectangle, you must walk.
·          When on the slide and other play structures, always walk and climb carefully. Do not chase each other or hang upside-down.
·          Use benches and picnic tables for sitting and relaxing – not for climbing and jumping.
·          Walk very carefully near the huge stones and large tree roots near the swings.
·          Share equipment and take turns if someone is waiting for a swing. Never walk close to the swings in motion.
·          Play respectfully and invite others to join in your games. Avoid arguments and always find a supervisor – the nearest adult - if there is a problem.
·          Never go inside the school without permission from an adult on duty.
